Sauber score points

The Sauber fans amongst us are celebrating today as the team scored its first points of the season at the Turkish Grand Prix in Istanbul Sunday. It’s been a long time coming and thankfully one could presume that progress is being made..if only at the benefit of Sebastian Vettel’s DNF. Peter Sauber explained:

“Looking at the whole weekend it’s clear we were able to confirm the upward trend which we saw in Barcelona,” said Sauber.

“Of course we were lucky in the race, but we finished with both cars and finally scored a well deserved championship point.”

If I had put money on a Sauber point Sunday, I think I may have given the nod to Pedro de la Rosa but how refreshing to see rookie Kamui Kobayashi score the points for the beleaguered team. This was done with cord showing on his front tire no less:

“I had a good start, although I was on the dirty side of the track, and the pace of the car in the beginning was good,” said Kobayashi.

“Our strategy was not easy. In the end I could see the canvas on the front-right tyre. Therefore I started to be very careful.

“But I am very happy we got our first point.”
