Sauber secures Emil Frey sponsorship

Good news from the Sauber camp today as they have announced the renewal of a long-standing sponsor. Peter Sauber is excited to continue his relationship with Emil Frey, a major Swiss Automotive group.

“I’m extremely pleased to be renewing our partnership,” said team owner Peter Sauber. “We worked together with great success for nine years and now we can start up again where we left off.”

Emil Frey has been a long-time sponsor of Sauber supporting the team from 1997-2005 when BMW acquired the Swiss-based F1 team. It is no secret the team was hoping to bring sponsorship through drivers Kamui Kobayashi and Pedro de la Rosa and to some extent, they have. Burger King agreed to a sponsorship deal for the Spanish and European Grands Prix on the back of De la Rosa but Emil Frey comes at a time that Sauber needs most.

After experiencing a very difficult start to the season, the former BMW works team needs solid footing in which to grow. A new three-year renewal of the Emil Frey partnership goes a long way. It has bee difficult to watch the team find their way through a dramatic withdrawal of BMW to an acquisition and then to a lack of performance and no one wants Sauber to recapture its form than me. Let us hope that when one sponsor comes, many others will feel safe to follow.
