Spa-Francorchamps circuit authorities announced on Friday that turn 15, Stavelot, will be renamed in memory of Belgian native Paul Frere.
Paul was the runner up in the 1956 Belgian grand prix for Ferrari. He also won the Le Mans 24 hours in 1960.
After retirement Frere penned ‘Sports Car and Competitive Driving’. He passed away in February at the age of 91.
The ‘Curve Paul Frere’ is at the top of the circuit. A noble cause to be sure but I am not sure I can stop calling it Stavelot. Sorry Paul, it’s Spa! Spa has Stavelot.
