A CNN report says that 34 people were arrested in connection with a plot to steal the casket and remains of Enzo Ferrari and then demand ransom from the Ferrari family. The plot, allegedly ascribed to members of Anonima Sequestri, a criminal organization with a history of kidnap-for-ransom crimes, was at the center of the plan.
A bizarre and sad concept to be sure and one that, thankfully, was foiled by Italian police. The plot was discovered through an investigation of arms and drug trafficking that netted a number of arrests.
Enzo, who dies in 1988 at the age of 90, is buried in an above-ground family tomb near the Ferrari plant in Maranello.
