You can put aside all those notions about how Sergio Perez phoned it in in the last half of the 2012 Formula One season as the Mexican leaped to the top of the time sheets on the second day of testing in Barcelona.
Perez set a quick time followed by Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel, whom many are following very closely to determine the true pace of the 2013 chassis. The minnows of F1 followed just 3-4 seconds off the pace of the front runners providing some comfort that maybe they have picked up the pace in the off season with their 2013 cars…then again, the front runners are most likely sandbagging so take that as you may.
some rumors on Twitter, expressly that of Eddie Jordan, have placed the Ferrari in a much better light than what the testing may show and time will tell if the Scuderia have sussed out their issues from 2013 but many suggest they have.
Ultimately Perez took honors and while many felt his motivation waned after inking a McLaren contract for 2013, his pace shows he’s focused and excited to be in Woking.
