The Flying Finn is back! McLaren bring Hakkinen back as ambassador

11

The Flying Finn is back! Back with McLaren that is. As a former driver for the folks in Woking and a champion, the team have a terrific ambassador back in the role he’s excelled at since leaving Formula 1 as an active driver.

Woking with Mercedes over the years, Mika has provided some terrific content and insight and re-joining McLaren is a natural even without the Mercedes engine supply that propelled him to two world titles.

“Returning to McLaren was an easy decision for me – I’ve never really lost contact, and I still know a lot of the hard-working men and women there from my eight-and-a-bit seasons with the team. Mika said:

“I’m also really looking forward to working with Zak, who owns one of my race-winning McLarens from 2001.

“We’ve spoken about how we can work together, and I can see that he’s putting in place the building blocks needed to help McLaren get back to the front.

“I’ll be collaborating closely with him during the exciting years ahead.”

Sure, I was a Schumacher fan in those days but I have always had a tremendous affection for Mika and considered him one of the more misunderstood and delightful champions in F1. I love his sense of humor and his approach and McLaren are making a very good move bringing him back.

Always been a fan of Mika, this is great news for McLaren. Do you think Fernando will be a McLaren ambassador in 15 years? ;-)

MIE

No, he’s more likely to remain with Honda …

Tom Firth

He’d make a good Renault ambassador one day.

Salvu Borg

“he (Alonso) will make a good Renault ambassador one day” but first the professor will have to be kicked-out (for the second time) from Renault. these appointed so called ambassadors does not stop their appointments, they have to be stopped, that is because their appointment is so Chose/cherry-picked, the best one and most re known for milking his appointment the most was the one who was famously compared to t music box, this one would normally be helicoptered in to a race track appearance as he seems to be allergic to traffic on the roads.

Tom Firth

Audi has many ambassadors, so does Mercedes. Don’t have to push Prost out for it for to happen.

Salvu Borg

Yes, but just imagine a formula one team having more than one ambassador and they all starts pushing out their opinions? We had a good example since Mercedes started the two big-heads trend when they starts a race between them in blabbing their mind off.

Alongside Flav and Pat Symonds, they could be the ‘put it in the wall gang’

LOL!

Mika is the new Niki? I guess that means we can look forward to another photo op for David Beckham, with an “Elderly Older F1 Fan”

Great choice, Mika is famed for his sisu. Exactly the characteristics the McHonda team need

Sisu is an inherent characteristic of the Finnish people. You might call it backbone, spunk, stamina, guts, or drive and perseverance. It is a measure of integrity that surpasses the hardship and sees through to the end.

I had/have the same feeling about Mika. I was big fan of Schumi, but appreciated the skill and personality of Mika very much. His retirement was a disappointment for me.

I have a feeling Schumacher felt the same http://tinyurl.com/ksxl8s6.
