Although it went up against a fairly attractive Sunday night NFL game, the debut of the American version of Top Gear pulled in about 1.9 million viewers, according to the initial reports.
Here are some of the numbers:
Total Viewers: 1.9 million
A18-49: 1.1 million
A25-54: 1.1 million
M18-49: 848,000
M25-54: 772,000
Along with the NFL game, a few other mitigating factors to think about:
- The key target demo of males 18-49 saw an increase of 19% vs. the show’s lead in.
- It had 1.1 million viewers in the key demos of 18-49 and 25-54.
Unfortunately, strong cable numbers are more in the 4 million viewers range. The deciding NASCAR race had about 5.5 million, for instance, on the same day.
I think the bottom-line among most watchers won’t surprise many of you: the show needs to do a little bit better. History Channel’s best show averages in the 3 million neighborhood, and Top Gear has a higher-than-normal budget.
In other words: You need to get funnier, guys. And maybe hope the future NFL games aren’t as exciting.
