I think everyone was aware that it wasn’t Vettel’s fault. He had no control, even when Hamilton got cut off. There shouldn’t have been a penalty
By the way, an update: Ferrari’s appealing the penalty.
When are we gonna admit to ourselves that Vettel can’t handle pressure? I don’t care who drives the red cars as long as they are winning. Martin Brundle and Jenson Button can spin this however they want, Vettel crunched again with Hamilton pushing him. I know Todd rode with him and is a fan. It’s time to call a spade a spade Todd. Vettel is a gem in front with a faster car but when push comes to shove Hamilton has the best of him.
Ferrari in the Blood
I have ridden with him…twice. He’s incredible. I do understand your point, though, and to be fair, he is trying to deliver a performance out of a car that has no interest in delivering the result he’s looking for. The pressure is immense to deliver for Ferrari. However, on the balance of it, small mistakes do happen (Germany last year) that cost him and that is sometimes the difference.
Seb has had a few mistakes under pressure as have other champions but in many ways, these have been critical moments that have cost dearly. I think back to mistakes Fernando made or Lewis or other drivers while under pressure and they’ve all done it but Seb is having a series of them that are pivotal to his title run. Given the strength of Mercedes for the past 5 years, you simply can’t have any mistakes or your lose large ground to the Silver Arrows.
Penalty deserved = no, but that is an emotional judgement. Penalty according to rules as written = yes. Needing full time stewards = HELL YES (even before this incident I’ve been an advocate of full time stewards).
I wonder how people would view the penalty of it were GRO in VET place and VET in HAM place. I’m suspecting an inverse relationship.
