Jean-Eric Vergne reckons Toro Rosso would do well to retain him for 2015 and I agree with him. Sure, I’m on record as a supporter and even though rumors suggest he doesn’t work hard enough outside the car, I think they 17-year-old Max Verstappen could learn a thing or two from a grizzled veteran like JEV.
“There are a lot of benefits [to keeping me],” Vergne said.
“They [Red Bull] see Max as a great talent and I think he can learn from me like Dani did this year.
“I think it’s a win-win for everybody.
“To be fair everything is pretty open for next year and I cannot say really what is going on, but all I can say is I wish to continue with this team and we will see what happens in the next few days and weeks.”
You’re already taking a gamble on a youngster so why not add some consistency to your program? You can get good baseline measurements on the car, where it should be and what it’s capable of from Vergne and this will only help Max.
If you go get another paying driver who is 19 years old, other than team expectations, historic performance measurements and suggestions, what measuring stick do you have? Unless you want a different driver on the grid with F1 experience.
