Despite starting in fourth, Max Verstappen took his Red Bull to the front to claim the win for 2024’s first Sprint race of the season.

Lando Norris had a slow start in his McLaren leaving the door open for Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes at turn one. Lewis took the lead of the race but that was short lived as Max overcame a battery issue and came storming back through the field to take the win by nearly 13 seconds.

The race was effectively a DRS train and tire management but there was a flurry of passes between Carlos Sainz, Fernando Alonso, Sergio Perez, Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris. Ultimately a clash between Sainz and Alonso forced the elder statesman, Fernando, to retire his car with damage.

Beyond the top 6, the rest of the field was mired in a DRS train which makes one wonder which is better, fewer passes with no DRS or fewer passes due to DRS.
