No news on his salary that I could find, but it’s a safe bet that he’s not taken a pay cut.
Sebastian Vettel has extended his contract with Red Bull until the end of 2011, with an option for 2012 as well. This means the Red Bull pair can be struck off the silly season speculation list, as Mark Webber extended his deal with the team last month. The story is all over the place, with these Christian Horner quotes taken from the BBC’s sports website.
“He’s been a member of the Red Bull junior team since the age of 12 and basically we’ve exercised some options that were available to us that secures his longer-term future,” said Red Bull team boss Christian Horner.
“It’s great news for the team and it just moves to avoid any unnecessary speculation.
“It safeguards the future of the team with Sebastian, who is obviously very much an emerging talent.
“It’s great to get that out of the way so early in the year. I think we’ve got one of the stronger driver pairings in Formula 1 We’ve got a great blend of youth and experience. I think there was a bit of interest [in Sebastian from other teams].”
What do you make of this, folks? Many fans have been clamouring for Vettel at their respective teams, but that doesn’t look likely for a while now…
Good news for Red Bull? Good news for der Seb?
