Sebastian Vettel told the BBC that he was “very surprised” by the pit lane speed infraction that resulted in a drive-through penalty costing the young German valuable points as he was battling with race-winner Lewis Hamilton for the victory.
“very surprised” to be called back through the pit lane.
“I wasn’t in a rush and can’t really explain why I got caught – it was maybe an electronics issue,” he suggested.
“With that penalty and the damage to my car by the end – it was falling apart! – fourth place was the best we could do.”
Red Bull have failed to take complete advantage of Brawn GP’s bad luck yet again. The season has three races left and with mistakes or mechanical failures like these, it’s unlikely (but not impossible) that the team can make a real challenge for the championship.
Keep in mind that Vettel is also on his last engine for the season with three races to go.
