VIDEO: F1 costs…today vs 1977

Formula One has become expensive and while the muckamucks of F1 try to derive some sort of cost cap or cost reduction system, teams have closed their doors for ever. When Caterham announced they’d be heading to Abu Dhabi for the last grand prix of the 2014 season in order to try and sell the team, they amassed a $40,000+ catering bill in the process of that very weekend.

So how much has the F1 expense grown? Well, for some of the top teams, it’s grown 300x or more. For some of you new to F1, current ring leader and F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone used to own a team and this interview helps us understand what his team spent on each car back in the day. To be fair, a top team might spend $300 million today but that’s all in, not just for the cars but I think you’ll get the point nonetheless.
