Villeneuve speaks: Focused on NASCAR

Well, that may not be what you wanted to hear. (Or maybe it is.)

Jacques Villeneuve has a brief statement up on his official website in response to the news/rumor today that he’s put in a bid for a Formula 1 team next season:

“I’ve never made it a secret that I’m looking at a future F1 programme, and have been working hard on that for the past 12 months. However, I have no further comment at this time.”

Umm… OK. Thanks?

There is a bit more to the full posting on the site:

Villeneuve is currently focusing on his NASCAR commitments with Braun Racing, which include taking to the wheel of the #32 Dollar General Toyota to qualify for the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and the Nationwide Series event at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.

In addition, Villeneuve will be competing in the Armor All Gold Coast 600 – the V8 Supercar component of the SuperCarnivale, in October.

And there you have the crux of it. I suspect Braun Racing didn’t have a clue that JV was so focused on an F1 return, and on a day when news otherwise would have focused on his return to NASCAR’s top rung at the Brickyard 400, instead it is about his attempts to get back into F1.
