Where’s Rubens Barrichello going?

What’s next for Rubens Barrichello? If you believe the rumors, everyone in Indycar wants him including Bobby Rahal:

“Is Rubens a guy that we’d look at? Absolutely,” Rahal said. “He’s a good driver, I like his personality and he could be a leader in the team. You’ve got to put him on your radar screen. For us, finding the funding for a second car is our emphasis right now but we certainly hope to be a two-car team next year.”

Not so fast Bobby, KV racing owner Jimmy Vasser is keen to retain the Brazilian and they feel they were the team to give him his shot in Indycar and have an investment in him:

“We’ve got an investment in Rubens, we want to keep him and we’ve got people in Brazil right now trying to sell sponsorships,” Vasser said via the Indycar website. “He’s free to do what he wants but I’d like to get some clarity because I keep hearing all these stories about where he might be going.”

You have to spare a thought for Jimmy as they did get Rubens in Indycar and have really given Formula One’s most experienced driver a shot at a career after his career. Rubens is still a terrific driver, no question, but he felt the chassis was difficult and he’s looking to move up the grid. Chances are, Rubens ins’t interested in running the back of an Indycar grid having done so in the waning years of F1.

Rumors have him speaking with Ganassi as well as Sam Schmidt. Time will tell but any move he’d make that would take him to the front would pay dividends as he’s capable of winning in a big way.
