Will MotoGP crown its youngest king in Phillip Island?

This year’s MotoGP battle between the current world champion, Jorge Lorenzo, and the man who would be king, Marc Marquez, heads down under for the Australian Grand Prix this weekend.

If Marquez wins at Phillip Island and Lorenzo score lower than 2nd place, we will crown the youngest-ever champion of MotoGP. Making that happen could be more difficult than Marquez wants as the circuit is majestic and Lorenzo reckons he might do well there:

“I feel that here we are much more competitive than in Malaysia,” Lorenzo said.

“In general, every step we make with the bike works so little by little we have improved and been faster.”

Marquez is truly gifted on a motorcycle and he’s been hailed as the next Valentino Rossi due to his brute force entry into the world’s most advanced form of motorcycle racing. Lorenzo, however, is no pushover to be sure. His Yamaha may not have the pace to feature against the Hondas of Marquez and Dani Pedrosa but he’s a multi-champion for a reason and he knows how to hustle a bike.

Time will tell but a championship in Australia or the two remaining races of the season for Marquez will certainly be deserved. Marquez has taken the series by the scruff of the neck and made it his mission to stand on top when the final flag waves in 2013.
