Do you remember Jost Capito? He was McLaren’s CEO for about a minute (five months actually). I recall the tumult at McLaren and I felt bad that he had just joined when everything was boiling to a head and he got caught int eh collateral damage of a boardroom battle. That’s how it seemed to me anyway.
Now he will become the CEO of Williams Formula 1 Racing while Simon Roberts will take the role of team principal.
“It’s a great honour for me to join Williams Racing during these exciting and demanding times for both the team and for F1,” he said.
“It is an honour to be a part of the future of this storied team, and one that carries such a poignant name in the sport, so I approach this challenge with great respect and with a huge amount of relish.”
Dorilton boss and Williams chairman Matthew Savage said:
“He is an experienced and competitive individual, who has built winning teams and is a winner in his own right.
“He understands the Williams heritage and will work well with the team in pursuit of our objective to return to the front of the grid.”
Capito re-joined VW after leaving McLaren and he is a motorsport veteran having been with Sauber and Ford as well. IT will be interesting to see if he can do what Andreas Seidl has done for McLaren.
