#F1Chat Preview – rules changes and new title sponsors

Last week, #F1Chat took a break after limited news in the previous week. This week, there’s been a bit more so here’s what’s coming up on tomorrow’s #F1Chat…

First up, it’s been announced that this week, the teams and the FIA will meet in Bahrain to discuss an immediate shake up to the qualifying rules with the aim to ensure all drivers take part in Q3. Proposals put forward include changing the current rule whereby the top 10 qualifiers start on the tyres which they set their Q3 time on, to the tyres they set their Q2 times on, or a set of Q3 tyres which will be handed back after the session. What do you think? Do you agree with either of these proposals? What else would you suggest? There’s also talk of lengthening the duration of Q3 to give the teams and drivers more time to set their flying laps – thoughts? All of the teams have to agree on the changes to the rules – do you think they will?

Although yet to confirm the news, it looks like Williams are to be rebranded in 2014 after merchandise was leaked online linking the team to Martini who look set to be their title sponsor. What are your thoughts on this? It is thought Martini were in talks with McLaren and Ferrari as well. McLaren are still without a title sponsor, do you see them finding a sponsor anytime soon? Williams are also in talks with Petrobras and have confirmed a multi-year deal with Genworth – thoughts?

Renault is confident it has made progress with its engine following the Jerez test, but they could also ask the FIA for a ‘reliability break’ should they still be having issues following 28th February when all manufacturers must homologate a single specification of its engine in time for the start of the season. What do you think about this? The fact that this has been reported makes it sound like Renault’s woes are continuing – thoughts?

The second test gets underway in Bahrain on Tuesday – any thoughts ahead of the test?

Finally, there are some changes to the GP2 Sporting Regulations this year, with practice being extended from 30 to 45 minutes, and changes to the tyre rules to bring them in line with F1 where all drivers must use both primes and options in a dry Feature Race – thoughts on this news?
