Hamilton wins Chaotic Australian Grand Prix

It what was a real race of attrition, Lewis Hamilton has claimed his first victory of 2008.

1 Lewis Hamilton
2 Nick Heidfeld
3 Nico Rosberg
4 Fernando Alonso
5 Heikki Kovalainen

With only seven cars finishing the race, the most notable moments were both Ferrari’s failing to finish, Both Williams in the points, BMW in 2nd, both Toyota’s failing to finish after such a promising qualifying performance, Both Red Bull cars out, Fernando Alonso driving if possessed and claiming 4th with an otherwise pig of a car, Kovalainen getting scuttled by the Safety Car in a bid for 2nd, Honda’s Ross Brawn executing a brilliant strategy to be scuppered by Rubens exiting pits under red light conditions, both Scuderia Toro Rosso cars failing to finish after Le Seb had sucha brilliant first race running in 4th and Nelson Piquet failing having a very difficult weekend that should only provide motivation next week.

All that being said; it was nothing but exciting and great to be back watching F1. If you missed the F1B chat on MSN Messenger; it was a terrific time as usual with great camaraderie and comments all night. Everyone was a blast to watcht eh race with and very funny. Thanks to all the F1B’s who chose to spend the evening with us and make this a special start to a special season for F1B.

Just got done watching the Aussie F1 race, and what happened to Kimi….. Brakes or brain fade….. I realize it’s the first race of the season, but is Ferrari devolving into it’s old self, Italian disarray! I hesitated even writing this as it is the first race of the season and anyone can have a bad race… and Ferrari did… 3 great quotes from the race… “Well, I tend to tune you out…a bit” – David Hobbs to Bob Varsha (Right on David, I knew there was a reason I liked you!) “A dominating performance, nearly eclipsed by the chaos… Read more »

a lot of action, and a lot of attrition. way more than i expected. bourdais was a big surprise for me. that was a real bummer to see him go out the way he did at the last minute, but looks like he’s going to be a great addition to the driver line up if toro rosso can keep it running. and i gotta say alonso did some mean driving. way to haul up that poorly performing renault up to 4th place. and then there was rubens. it’s taken so long for him to get a competitve honda, and the… Read more »

I felt kind of bad for Rubens.

I was impressed by NIck, Robert, Nico and Alonso. Also Bourdais even though the lack of cars probably helped him get to where he was.

I do too, Philip. I like Rubens and think they were on to a very good finish but alas, that’s F1. :)
