Wilson joins Andretti Autosport for part-time IndyCar drive

Announced just as the 2015 Verizon IndyCar Series prepares for its season opener on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida, Justin Wilson will be driving the No. 25 Honda for the Grand Prix of Indianapolis as well as the 99th Running of the Indianapolis 500 during the Month of May.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Andretti Autosport. It’s a fantastic opportunity for me and this should be a strong program. I’m looking forward to continuing my relationship with Honda and to working with Ryan (Hunter-Reay), Carlos (Muñoz) and Marco (Andretti). Thank you to Michael (Andretti) for bringing me on board and giving me this great opportunity. I know that the team has everything in place to do well, and I’m really confident about what the group is capable of this year.” — Justin Wilson

Andretti already has a part-time driver in Simona de Silvestro in the No. 25 machine for this weekend’s race and the hope was to develop the relationship into a longer-term deal. With the announcement of Wilson in the No. 25, does this mean that Simona is once again on the outside looking in? Andretti has been known to run five cars at Indianapolis, but if it were a genuine probability of Simona driving for the team at Indy, I would have expected Wilson’s deal to have been announced under a different car number.

Negative Camber

Justin is a really nice chap. I have always felt that he is a guy who should have been in F1 much longer than he was. Whenever Indy goes to road courses, Justin just seems to bubble to the top and really come on song. A shame he couldn’t get the support in F1.
