Loss Of TC: DC Says Bad, Max Says No Big Deal

8

DC has opened talks with Charlie Whiting regarding the loss of Traction Control and the safety of F1 during wet races. According to DC and others, driving in the rain without TC will be a lot more dangerous. They cite the Fuji race in 2007 as an example of a race that could not have been run without TC.

Max on the other hand is using the law of physics to show that wet races reduce speed and the possibility of someone getting hurt at reduced speeds is tremendously lower. It is a push and not as big of a deal as the driver’s are making it out to be.

What do you think?

i think DC is just asking for everyone to take a look at what constitues dangerous rain conditions really. fuji was a joke to me. i didn’t enjoy the race at all. max does have a point that the cars will probably be lapping slower without T/C, but overall, officials need to know when to call it quits due to dangerous conditions. damp is one thing, fuji rain is dangerous TC or no TC..

I kind of agree. I think maybe they are trying to revisit what is safe for a race and how much rain they should really run in. DC is probably using the TC issue to shed light on the fact that they aren’t going to be able to pull off another Fuji in 2008.

That’d be a shame cuz the race was absolutely great!

Its the age old problem of having the race at anytime other than its scheduled time is a logistic and economical nightmare. So rain or not the race will go on. What this means is more fuji rain parades where the only excitement is trying to figure out if Schamilton passed the pace car by a centimeter or brake check the folks behind him. The show is too big to have it at any other time.

There needs to be a point where they say enough is enough and stop the race. They called Monaco in 84 halfway through because the rain was so heavy, they also were not using traction control.

I recall Spa 98 being quite a pile up due to heavy rain at the beginning. The race after the restart was really good. Many have said Fuji was horrible but I thought it was a decent race. Rain bring the best to the top.

Grace is right, the show mus go on.

I didn’t think Fuji was that bad either, if they had let Monaco finish in 84 it probably would have been sennas first win, I think this would be a good example of rain bringing the best to the top.
